MARK OFF-TOPIC POSTS WITH THE PROPER FLAIR: New people are of course welcome as well. This is a subReddit intended for the discussion of topics generally related to film, created in the hope of keeping our established community of cinema lovers alive. Good ending that's left more or less ambiguous. This subReddit was founded by the former users of IMDb's Film General Message board, and is not associated with Amazon or the Internet Movie Database. The entire ending scene with Andrews performance, his father finally understanding how great of a drummer his son is, and Fletchers approval was a fantastic ending and it is definitely one that I still talk about.Ĥ)Rogue One. Plus the final shot of Deckard was a fantastic way to end a film.ģ)Whiplash. That ending, with the score, the understanding between Deckard and K, and K finally finding his place in everything was great. Everything about this movie was amazing for me. A truly unforgettable movie with some amazing performances.Ģ)Blade Runner 2049. That ending with Logan saying, "So this is what it feels like" while he holds Laura's hands had me crying. Logan was sad from the get go, but when Xavier more or less ambiguously admits that he remembers he's the reason the X-men aren't around anymore, and then from there, it was truly sad to watch. The first time I watched it, the ending was so sad, so full of despair, that I left the theater feeling like I had just been punched in the heart many times for about an hour. Because reaching your dreams wasn't enough?ġ) Logan. But now, they just show them winning in everything. They lose fame, but win happiness and love. Like instead of playing piano in a jazz club, show Seb playing piano to his young child dancing with the mother. If they wanted to show "different choices lead to different, but equally good outcomes", then I think they could have taken a different and more effective approach. Also the club Sebastian is in Paris is called Chicken Legs, or whatever was his idea for the name of the club, so it can be taken that it's his. The reason she nailed it in real life, was her hardships and sacrifices. ![]() She nails the audition in the dream too and flies to Paris, just like in real life, except sans sacrifices like broken relationship. The whole world reacts differently to them, including the asshole boss. ![]() It's not just that Sebastian goes to audition, the audition is also sold-out and ends in standing ovation. It's a fantasy where everything happened perfectly and they got all that they wanted. Yeah, but it's still not alternate "what if we chose differently scenario", I think. What are some of the favorite endings for r/movies? Those are the three that immediately sprung to mind for me. The build up, with Kaffee badgering the hell out of Jessup over the loud objections of both Captain Ross and the judge and Nicholson's perfectly delivered "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!" speech, and the payoff of Jessup screaming in defiance "YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT I DID!" play so well together. Jessup battle on the stand to be the emotional ending of the film. I also like that Cobb isn't looking to see if it falls but going towards his kids - it shows he finally understands what's important and completes his arc.ģ) A Few Good Men: I'm stretching the definition of "ending" here since there's another scene after this but I'm counting the Kaffee vs. This, to me, is the gold standard of endings.Ģ) Inception: Again, I love the ambiguity. And this doesn't even get into the preceding battle with the mercenary blackhat and the cattle baron. Is he alive? Is he dead? It plays perfectly to his character to leave without looking back, knowing he did the right thing. It led me to thinking about other great film endings and trying to figure out what the greatest for me is.ġ) Shane: I love the ambiguity at the end. So I just finished seeing The Last Jedi (no spoilers) and thought the ending, from the Silent Shot on, was absolutely spectacular. ![]()
